The Percy Jackson books in order start with The Lightning Thief (2005) and run through the five original Percy Jackson and the Olympians novels in publication order, ending with The Last Olympian (2009). Read The Heroes of Olympus (2010 to 2014) next, then the newer Percy books, The Chalice of the Gods (2023) and Wrath of the Triple Goddess (2024), which Rick Riordan’s official site now numbers as books six and seven of the original series. As of October 2026, a third senior-year Percy novel is in revisions and has no publication date.
Riordan’s own FAQ sends readers from Percy Jackson to The Heroes of Olympus and then to The Trials of Apollo, a series that publication order places (2016 to 2020) before the newer Percy books.

Readers following Riordan’s FAQ can read The Trials of Apollo between books 10 and 11, as in the route below.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2005 to 2009)
Riordan’s FAQ describes the original run as a five-book series and says the story begun in The Lightning Thief wraps up in The Last Olympian.
- The Lightning Thief (2005): Percy, 12, learns the Greek gods are real and finds himself blamed for the theft of Zeus’s master bolt, so he crosses the country with Grover, a satyr, and Annabeth, a daughter of Athena, to find the real culprit.
- The Sea of Monsters (2006): The magic protecting Camp Half-Blood starts to fail after its guardian tree is poisoned, and the only cure is hidden in the Sea of Monsters, while Percy also has to rescue his friend Grover.
- The Titan’s Curse (2007): An urgent call from Grover leads Percy to two powerful young demigods, and when the goddess Artemis disappears, Percy teams up with her band of Hunters to find her.
- The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008): With the Titan lord Kronos getting ready to attack the camp, Percy and his friends head into the Labyrinth, a vast maze under the earth, to head off the invasion.
- The Last Olympian (2009): While the gods battle the monster Typhon, Kronos marches on New York, leaving Percy and his fellow campers to defend Manhattan as the prophecy about his 16th birthday draws near.
The Heroes of Olympus (2010 to 2014)
Riordan began this sequel series in October 2010 with The Lost Hero. His FAQ says many characters from the first series return alongside a new lead cast, and the books add a new Great Prophecy and Camp Jupiter, a camp for Roman demigods.
- The Lost Hero (2010): Jason comes to on a school bus with no memory of who he is, and an attack on a field trip sends him, Piper and Leo to Camp Half-Blood, where one of the campers has gone missing.
- The Son of Neptune (2011): The story moves to a Roman camp in California, where a new arrival who seems to be a son of Neptune turns up as the hunt for the prophecy’s seven heroes goes on.
- The Mark of Athena (2012): Annabeth and the crew of the flying warship Argo II fly to the Roman camp hoping to be seen as friends, then sail for Rome on the first leg of the quest to find and close the Doors of Death, with four demigods sharing the narration.
- The House of Hades (2013): The Argo II crew pushes on toward the Doors of Death as the earth goddess Gaea gathers her forces.
- The Blood of Olympus (2014): Every one of Gaea’s giants is now awake, and the Greek and Roman demigods have to reach Athens to keep the earth goddess herself from waking.
The newer Percy Jackson books (2023 to present)
Fourteen years after The Last Olympian, Riordan added new novels to Percy Jackson and the Olympians itself, a run of senior-year adventures. Percy needs three letters of recommendation from the gods for admission to New Rome University, and so far each book has covered one quest.
- The Chalice of the Gods (September 26, 2023): Hoping for a quiet final year of high school, Percy takes on his first quest with Annabeth and Grover: helping Zeus’s cup-bearer track down a missing goblet.
- Wrath of the Triple Goddess (September 24, 2024): Hecate offers a recommendation letter in exchange for pet-sitting over Halloween week, an easy-sounding job that goes wrong once her polecat and mastiff get loose.
- Third senior-year adventure (untitled): In an October 2026 update, Riordan said he was back to revising it, hoped to finish by year’s end and had no firm publication date, with late 2027 as his best guess. He expects it to be the final Percy Jackson book, though he tries never to say never.
Where The Trials of Apollo and the Nico and Will books fit
In The Trials of Apollo, Zeus punishes Apollo by sending him to New York as a mortal teenager. Riordan’s FAQ says characters from both earlier series show up, and that this is where readers find out what they did next.
- The Hidden Oracle (2016)
- The Dark Prophecy (2017)
- The Burning Maze (2018)
- The Tyrant’s Tomb (2019)
- The Tower of Nero (2020)
Riordan also co-wrote two novels with Mark Oshiro starring Nico di Angelo and Will Solace. In The Sun and the Star (May 2, 2023), a voice calling from Tartarus pulls Nico and Will into a dangerous quest. In The Court of the Dead (September 23, 2025), the pair join Hazel Levesque, Nico’s half-sister, at Camp Jupiter, where monsters who have taken refuge there begin to disappear. The official description of The Sun and the Star refers back to events in The Trials of Apollo, so it reads best after that series.
Percy Jackson companion books
- The Demigod Files (2009): A supplement with three original Percy short stories, character interviews and extras, per Riordan’s site.
- The Demigod Diaries (2012): More short stories, including one from Luke Castellan’s point of view about his early adventures with Thalia and Annabeth.
- Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods (2014) and Percy Jackson’s Greek Heroes (2015): Percy retells the classic myths in his own sarcastic voice, with illustrations by John Rocco.
- Demigods & Magicians (2016): Collects the three crossover stories, “The Son of Sobek,” “The Staff of Serapis” and “The Crown of Ptolemy,” in which Percy and Annabeth meet Carter and Sadie Kane.
- Camp Half-Blood Confidential (2017): A guide to camp, framed as a reply to a terrible orientation video made by Apollo.
The Kane Chronicles, Magnus Chase and Camp Half-Blood
The Kane Chronicles (The Red Pyramid, 2010; The Throne of Fire, 2011; The Serpent’s Shadow, 2012) follows siblings Carter and Sadie Kane after ancient Egypt’s gods are let loose in the modern world. The crossover stories above link it to Percy’s books.
Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard (The Sword of Summer, 2015; The Hammer of Thor, 2016; The Ship of the Dead, 2017) turns to Norse mythology through Magnus, a homeless teenager in Boston. Riordan’s FAQ notes that Magnus is Annabeth’s cousin and that Annabeth and Percy make cameos.
Camp Half-Blood is a new four-book series Riordan co-wrote with Annabelle Oh, Kyle Lukoff, Jade Adia and Pablo Cartaya, with each book narrated by a different new camper. The story takes place in the fall after The Lightning Thief and before The Sea of Monsters, and Riordan says it stands on its own for readers new to his books. The Wild Zone, with Oh, came out September 29, 2026, from Random House Children’s Books and, Riordan reports, debuted at the top of the New York Times middle grade list. The Rite of Aphrodite, with Lukoff, is due March 30, 2027, according to Penguin Random House. All four are written and will arrive six months apart, Riordan says.

The Percy Jackson Disney+ series, as of October 2026
Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg created the Disney+ series. Season one launched in December 2023, and season two, adapting The Sea of Monsters, premiered December 10, 2025. Disney greenlit season three in March 2025, before season two aired.
Season three adapts The Titan’s Curse and premieres November 20, 2026, on Disney+, Disney announced. Deadline reports eight episodes, released two at a time over four weeks, with the schedule running through December 11. Neither that announcement nor Riordan’s October 2026 update mentions a fourth season. In May 2026 Riordan said Camp Half-Blood was under option with Disney+ for a possible show; in October he wrote that the TV idea is still just being discussed.
Frequently asked questions
How many Percy Jackson books are there?
As of October 2026, Percy Jackson and the Olympians has seven novels: the original five (2005 to 2009) plus The Chalice of the Gods and Wrath of the Triple Goddess. A third senior-year book is in revisions, and the wider Riordanverse runs to more than 20 novels.
Do you need to read Percy Jackson before The Heroes of Olympus?
Yes, ideally. Riordan’s FAQ presents The Heroes of Olympus as the next step after the first series, and many of its characters return.
Is there going to be another Percy Jackson book?
Yes. Riordan is revising a third senior-year adventure and guesses it will come out in late 2027. Before that, the second Camp Half-Blood book is due March 30, 2027, though Riordan says Percy does not appear in that series.
When does Percy Jackson season 3 come out?
Season three premieres November 20, 2026, on Disney+, with two episodes. It adapts The Titan’s Curse, and new episodes arrive in pairs each week through December 11.
