Weekly Roundup, January 7-11, 2019

Howdy! Hard to believe it, but January is almost halfway finished. Tempus fugit, and so on. Anyway! Let’s take a peek at the delightful tricks and wonders that we had on offer for you this week! Onward!

Monday

Author Lou Anders was on deck first thing to share his favorite things. “What does Lou love when he’s not writing about pirates or dragons? Spoiler alert: a community-oriented superhero, a superhero not afraid to listen to the women in his life, an all-ages epic fantasy, playing and writing for role-playing games, and a whimsical children’s fantasy series. Interested? Read on to learn more!”

Tuesday

Merrin came so very close to completing her 2018 resolution (to read N.K. Jemisin’s entire existing body of work). She’s finishing up now. Check out her thoughts on The Obelisk Gate.

On Tuesday afternoon, we debuted our Sound Off! for Bumblebee! Did you see this installment in the Transformers franchise? Feel free to chime in with your opinions!

Wednesday

Andrea Judy is a big fan of Delilah S. Dawson, so it was no surprise that she came to tell us about Sparrowhawk on Wednesday. I’ll let her review title speak for itself: Victorian. Faerie. Fight club. Sounds awesome, no? (I swear, my TBR pile is suffering enough without Andrea reviewing all of Dawson’s work. I’ve added every single title that she’s reviewed to either my collection or my “to be purchased later” list. You’re killing me, Andrea.)

Thursday

Venessa Giunta watched Mary Poppins Returns and has feelings. She admits early in her column that the original Mary Poppins is very close to her heart. How does the sequel hold up?

Friday

And finally, Sherry Peters has chosen her 2019 Resolution Project! Come with us to a galaxy far, far away

Book Club

Sharon Shinn’s Mystic and Rider is the book of the month; are you reading? I hope so! We would so love you to join us in our book discussion. And don’t forget, we’re reading How Long ‘Til Black Future Month by N.K. Jemisin for February. Join the party! Plus, if you haven’t voted for what we’re going to read next, I hope that you’ll take a few minutes to check out this post and vote! There are some great choices here, and I, for one, would be happy to read any of them. Go make your opinions heard!

And that, my cherubs, is that. I hope that you have an excellent weekend planned. Me? I’m working at the day job, and possibly getting ready for a snow-filled adventure. The last time that snow came to town, my car window broke and my husband’s truck decided that four-wheel drive was for other vehicles. To say that I’m not terribly excited by the possibility of a winter wonderland would be an understatement. Oh well.

At least I might get a chance to build a snowman.

Look, I never said what sort of snowman. If I want it to be a rampaging monster that’s also a pretty princess, so be it. Image of Marshmallow from Frozen, © Disney
