Weekly Roundup, March 12-16, 2018

Good afternoon! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Go easy on the unnaturally green foods and beverages today, my loves. But do indulge in some nice corned beef and cabbage, or a hearty bowl of Irish stew and some soda bread, if the mood strikes you. How am I celebrating today? By locking the door and cowering under the bed. My career in the public sector has left me wary of large crowds of people who may or may not be mostly drunk. If you, like me, fear the green tide that is this day, duck into here with me and let’s take a look at what our writers produced for you this week!

Monday

Calie Voorhis, the brains currently behind Changing the Map, took her turn in the hot seat for My Favorite Things. Calie’s been suffering with the Head Cold That Threatens To Eat Humanity, so this edition featured the things that she turns to when she’s not feeling well. What are those things? “A witchy herbal tea, decorating islands, futuristic mysteries, a remash of Tolkien, and the inspiration for Wall-E.” Want more details? (You do.) Read all about these things right here!

Tuesday

Merrin began our Tuesday with her thoughts on N.K. Jemisin’s Inheritance Trilogy. This is part of Merrin’s 2018 resolution (to read Jemisin’s entire body of work). I know her opinion on this set of novels; read her post and you’ll know, too. (Spoiler: I’m moving this up to the top of my TBR list.)

On Tuesday afternoon, our Sound Off! for A Wrinkle in Time appeared. I haven’t watched it yet, but fortunately for me (and you), three of our contributors did. Take a look at their (spoiler free!) thoughts.

Wednesday

Andrea Judy reviewed a dark little novella for Wednesday morning. Her thoughts on Of Lips and Tongues most definitely sparked my interest. Maybe you’ll be intrigued, too!

Thursday

Pacific Rim has a sequel! HAIL PACIFIC RIM! Ahem. But, yes, Pacific Rim Uprising is coming soon! The first film is beloved by Nu Yang, so what does she think about the forthcoming sequel? Read her thoughts on the sequel’s trailers to find out.

Friday

In another resolution project post this week, Lane Robins returns with the latest installment of Listen Up! This month, Lane took in a six-episode podcast called Lauren Proves Magic is Real. I’m not a podcast listener myself, but this sounds charming and mysterious. Check out Lane’s thoughts right here, and see if you’re curious about this series as well!

Book Club

I hope you’re reading Daggerspell by Katharine Kerr! The discussion’s going to appear here any day now. Finished it? Awesome! Dig into John Scalzi’s Redshirts, and make sure that you’ve voted for our May selection right here.

And that’s it! If you are venturing out into the festivities today, remember a few things: wear green to be festive, do not pinch anyone who isn’t wearing green, and be on the lookout for crazed leprechauns.
