Book Club: May Announcement and June Poll

May the Fourth be with you (and also with you). For May’s poll I had you choose from Star Wars adjacent books, and I’m super pleased with the results.

Shards of Honor (1986)
Written by: Lois McMaster Bujold
Discussion date: 5/24/19

Premise:

When Cordelia Naismith and her survey crew are attacked by a renegade group from Barrayar, she is taken prisoner by Aral Vorkosigan, commander of the Barrayan ship that has been taken over by an ambitious and ruthless crew member. Aral and Cordelia survive countless mishaps while their mutual admiration and even stronger feelings emerge. A science fiction romance by a Hugo and Nebula Award winning master. Bujold’s SHARDS OF HONOR is the first book in her SF universe to feature the Vorkosigan clan, followed by the Hugo award-winning BARRAYAR.

Last June we read books featuring fathers to celebrate Father’s Day, but this year (as I did in May) I’m taking a different route. You know what happens in June? The Summer Solstice. While googling fantasy novels that featured the solstice (that’s a hard google, friends), I came across a list of cli-fi (apparently this is the genre name for climate change disaster novels) books to celebrate the Summer Solstice with, and said to myself, “yes, please.”
