Weekly Roundup, November 12-16, 2018

Hello! Guess what time it is? Are you ready? Got your snacks and a drink? Settle in, it’s time to revisit the last week here at Speculative Chic!

Monday

Our guest for My Favorite Things was author Jessica McHugh! “What does Jessica love when she’s not torturing her characters? Spoiler alert: lucky dragons, chatty cats, a ’90s cartoon that still holds up, a time-traveling actress, a little bit of spy-fi, and sweeping metaphors. Curious? Read on to learn more!”

Tuesday

Merrin continued with her 2018 Resolution Project (read N.K. Jemisin’s entire current body of work) with her review of the second Dreamblood novel, The Shadowed Sun. Will Merrin successfully complete her goal before the end of this year? We hope so! In any case, take a look at her thoughts on The Shadowed Sun.

Wednesday

Andrea Judy shared her thoughts on The Awesome by Eva Darrows. What did she think of this novel? Was it, indeed, awesome? (I can’t resist, forgive me.) Go read!

Thursday

I reviewed Catherynne M. Valente’s breathtakingly gorgeous anthology, The Future is Blue, on Thursday! It’s one of those books that’s beautiful inside and out, both the story and the physical form. Take a peek at my spoiler-free review! And take this opportunity to view the pretty cover again! You know you want to. Well. I want to. So there you have it. You’re welcome.

Friday

Nicole Taft is almost done with her Resolution Project, too! Her second film for this month’s Silver Screen Resolution was Trollhunter. I’ll come clean, I hadn’t heard of this one before Nicole’s review. I’m curious now. Read her spoiler-free review and see if you are, too. And if you’ve seen it, feel free to have a chat with Nicole in the comments!

Book Club

We’re going to be talking about Marissa Meyer’s Cinder fairly soon. I really hope that you’re reading so that you can join the discussion. Please feel free to spread the word and bring your friends to our virtual book club meeting later this month!

What fun! I’m still getting over the nasty head cold that I was first coming down with last week, and though I really want a nice low-key weekend, that’s out of the realm of possibility for me. Mr. Price and I are getting together with some friends on Thursday for the holiday, which means that I need to plan a grocery store raid. On the weekend before a big holiday. Why hasn’t power armor been approved for modern, civilian life? Of all the things that I want from the fictional world, Fallout‘s power armor is currently the thing that I want the most. Tell me that this wouldn’t be amazing for powering your way through a busy store during the holidays.

Disclaimer: Mr. Price has been playing the hell out of Fallout 76, so I’ve got this kind of thing on the brain right now. Are you playing? If so, what do you think of the game so far? Does it hold up to previous installments? Thank you, as always, for indulging me. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
