Weekly Roundup, November 5-9, 2018

Hello all! Happy weekend, as always. Your friend and trusted tour-guide has had quite the week. On top of plenty of other delights, I’m fighting off the wasting plague a cold, so this is going to be a short, sweet trip back into time. Hop on board, we’re departing in 3…2…1…now!

Monday

This week’s guest for My Favorite Things was Madeline J. Reynolds, whose debut novel, Illusions, was unleashed upon the world on Tuesday! What are a few of Madeline’s favorite things? “Spoiler alert: movies worth marathoning, a series to devour, complex villains, a likely Doctor, and cynical but relatable characters. Interested? Read on to learn more!”

Tuesday

Lane Robins is so very close to finishing up this year’s resolution (explore the weird, wonderful world of podcasts)! This month’s selection: Mabel. But what is Mabel, you may be asking yourselves? “A podcast about ghosts, family secrets, strange houses, and missed connections.” Hmm. Could be interesting! Could be…not. What did Lane think? See for yourself! (Warning: all of the spoilers.)

Wednesday

Venessa Giunta shared a review of Richard A. Knaak’s Black City Dragon. This is the third book in the series, so if you’re interested in this book, you should probably start with the first novel, Black City Saint. In any case, go read Venessa’s review for a taste of the series. Maybe it will be to your liking? (Beware of characters spoilers here.)

Thursday

I reviewed Ruthanna Emrys’s Deep Roots for Thursday. This is a sequel to Winter Tide, which I reviewed last year. I’ll go ahead and tell you the short version right here (because it’s me, and because I can): I like these books a lot, and I want there to be more of them, so please read them. Full review here. (No spoilers!)

Friday

It’s been a hell of a year, hasn’t it. It’s been a hell of a couple of years, if we’re being honest. It is important to seek the light in even the darkest places, and with that in mind, please allow me to present this month’s roundtable: What Brought You Joy (the 2018 Edition). We all have things that made us happy this year; read about some of ours! Maybe you’ll find something new to love!

Book Club

Are you reading Cinder? Have you voted for our next selection? I hope you are! And please, tell your friends! The more the merrier!

And that, friends, is the end of this week’s trip. What are you up to this weekend? It’s the first truly chilly day here in the Kingdom of Undisclosed Location, and I’m enjoying it. I intensely dislike summer, so I’m delighted that cooler weather has finally arrived. I’d like to go for a hike, but it’s been too rainy lately to climb a mountain. Also it’s probably not the best activity for somebody who has been coughing far more than is polite. My weekend plans include attempting to get caught up on my NaNoWriMo project (a hilarious goal at this point), continue battling the Laundry Dragon, and attending a birthday dinner for the children of some dear friends. May the odds be ever in my favor.
