My Favorite Things with Seressia Glass

They might not be raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens, but that doesn’t mean that we love them any less. Welcome back to My Favorite Things, the weekly column where we grab someone in speculative circles to gab about the greatest in geek. This week, we sit down with author Seressia Glass, whose urban fantasy and paranormal novels are steeped in Egyptian mythology!

What does Seressia love when she’s not researching her latest Shadowchasers trilogy? I’d spoil you, but there’s too many things to mention! Read on to learn more!

Favorite Alien Language: I loved Stargate, so I have to say the Goa’uld and their language is tops for me.

Favorite Anime: InuYasha will always be number one, but I love all of the Gundam iterations, and Battle of the Planets was one of the first I saw as a kid. Oh, and anything by Hayao Miyazaki will always give me the feels.

Favorite Book Series: The Belgariad by David Eddings and the Xenogenesis series by Octavia Butler. I discovered and devoured them both at the same time, but discovering Octavia Butler…that was the first time my teenaged self saw someone like me in a story — writing a story. I knew then that my dream of being a writer was actually possible.

Favorite Soundtrack: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig. I saw the original anime movie in a theater and caught every anime iteration that I could. “Rise” kicks you in the pants and gets you moving. “Living Inside This Shell” ends the journey and still resonates with me.

Favorite Superhero: I’m dating myself, and the show doesn’t stand the test of time, but I loved Isis from the Shazam/Isis hour back when I was a kid. And Lynda Carter’s Wonder Woman will always have a special place in my heart.

Favorite Television Show: Sleepy Hollow (season 1) and Superstition, a SyFy series very few people saw (unfortunately) in which Mario van Peebles played an immortal Moor kicking evil’s ass in a small parish in Louisiana with the help of his family. I wish there was a second season of that.

Favorite Television Network: It’s a tie between the Science Channel and Cartoon Network. I love all of the space documentaries, Secrets of the Lost, Mysteries of the Abandoned — it’s a treasure trove of inspiration! And I love my Toonami lineup on Saturday nights.

BONUS: Favorite Non-Speculative Thing: I have two favorite cartoons: Steven Universe and Craig of the Creek. I love the imagination the kids of the creek display and how every group of kids, no matter their hobby, has found a home in the creek. As for Steven Universe, parenting skills aside, I love its diversity and how quirky is accepted.

Seressia Glass is an award-winning author of more than twenty contemporary and paranormal romance and urban fantasy stories. She is currently researching and plotting for the next Shadowchasers trilogy.

“Urban fantasy and paranormal novels steeped in Egyptian mythology” sounds interesting. I need to put these on my to-read list.
