Weekly Roundup, October 1-5, 2018

Hello again, happy readers! What are you up to this weekend? I hope that you’re having a great time, whatever adventures that you happen to be embarking upon. As for me, I’m simply here to make sure that you’re all caught up on that great week that we just wrapped up here at Spec Chic. Onward!

Monday

This week’s guest for My Favorite Things was author Christopher Krovatin! His newest novel, Frequency, looks right up my concert-addicted soul’s alley. Take a look for yourself, and DEFINITELY check out his favorite things! (Here’s a taste: “creepy creatures that deserve a chance to shine, short fiction to sink your teeth into, bands you’ll have a tough time seeing live, and art imitating life.”)

Our Daily Lovecraft!

Happy October! If you’ve been paying attention for the last week, you may have noticed a brand new ongoing project from superstar Nicole Taft! Nicole decided that this year would be the one in which she will defeat the behemoth Barnes and Noble complete works of HP Lovecraft. She’s posting every single day (even on the weekends), so be sure to check in on her progress (and her sanity)! You can even read along with her (handy links will be provided), if you dare. I won’t be linking to each individual day, so follow along right here.

Tuesday

I reviewed Seanan McGuire’s second Ghost Roads novel, The Girl in the Green Silk Gown. If you haven’t heard of this series, pick up the first book, Sparrow Hill Road, then get thee to your favorite book source and pick up book two! Then come back and chat with me!

On Tuesday afternoon, Kendra Merritt reviewed Darby Karchut’s newest novel, Del Toro Moon! Kendra’s a fan of Karchut’s other work…what did she think of this brand new book? Take a look and find out!

Wednesday

Lane Robins is making great progress on her resolution project, Listen Up! She’s found her groove with podcasts and figured out what pushes her buttons in just the right way. This month she tries out The Magnus Archives.

Thursday

Nicole Taft, despite willingly descending into madness with Lovecraft this month, is still working her way through the backlog of films she feels that she would have watched by now. Her first film this month is Bruce Campbell’s campy horror classic, The Evil Dead!

Friday

All hail Sherry Peters! She has completed the fifth volume of A Song of Ice and Fire! She’s only got the last two seasons of Game of Thrones to go before she will have conquered the Year of Thrones! Take a look at her review of A Dance With Dragons and see what her thoughts on this book, and the series as a whole.

Merrin revealed what we’ll be reading in November: Marissa Meyer’s Cinder! Visit the announcement post to vote on which wintery novel we’ll be reading for our final book of 2018!

Book Club

Are you reading The Silent Companions? I hope so, because we’ll be discussing it later this month!

And that, friends, is that. I’m off to enjoy my own weekend, which will include a scary movie or two, and a mini roadtrip to a giant book fair! I haven’t had much time to read lately, so I’m hoping to find some hidden treasure at the fair. But, maybe not this treasure. Some things should stay hidden, you know.
