Weekly Roundup, August 20-24, 2018

Welcome back, happy readers! As always, I hope that you’ve had a marvelous week, and that your weekend brings you endless delights! Personally, I’m spending the weekend at the day job, but I haven’t had to do that for a few weeks, and fair’s fair. So, this week’s tour of The Week That Was is going to be a quick one. Are we ready? Good, let’s go!

Monday

Monday means My Favorite Things, and this week that meant that one of our own, one Nancy O’Toole Meservier, pulled up a virtual chair to squee about the things she loves best right now. What are those things? “Superpowers with consequences, heroes falling in love with villains, smart women and space travel, the most immersive Mario ever, and gothic music synthesizing with a dancing violinist.” Go read!

Tuesday

Changing the Map returned for its August installment on Tuesday. This month, Calie Voorhis was joined by a special guest Junior Field Researcher! Why? This month, we’re taking a look at how to survive a YA dystopia, and Calie decided to recruit an expert on the subject, Abby Voorhis. Go check out the column and read the advice that Calie and Abby have to offer!

Wednesday

Kendra Merritt continued her journey through the classics of sci-fi and fantasy this week. This month’s Delayed Reaction? Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein. What did Kendra think of this classic work? See for yourself!

Thursday

Nicole Taft, who is conquering her New Year’s 2018 resolution like a champ, shared a new film review! Let’s watch Lazer Team 2!

Friday

It was all about the books on Friday. First up, Merrin started out our day with a discussion of Jo Walton’s Among Others. I haven’t had a time to participate in the newest book club discussion yet, but I will be joining the fun myself later today. If you’ve read this one, we’d love to have you join us!

We rounded out Friday with some delightful news: J.L. Gribble, our film guru, has a new book coming out next month! We were delighted to share the new cover! When you’re finished ogling the pretty, consider checking out some of the earlier books in her series! Handy-dandy links are provided for your shopping enjoyment.

Book Club

Like I said, go talk about Among Others with Merrin! And start reading The Last Unicorn when you’ve finished doing that, as it will be our September discussion. Looking for extra points? Vote for our October selection right here.

And that’s all I’ve got for you amazing people. I must dash off, but feel free to stay and talk amongst yourselves! We love to chat, as I remind you frequently. Do something fun this weekend! Even if you’re like me, and heading off to work, take a few minutes for yourself. We would love it if you’d spend those few minutes with us, but we know that you’re busy people and have things to do. I’ll be back next week, and we’ll go exploring again. Don’t forget your travel buddies.
