Weekly Roundup, June 25-29, 2018

Welcome to June’s very last roundup! I used to love June. Such promise. Such hope for a long summer spent filled with adventures. Then I had to grow up, get a job, and such things became distant memories. Now, as a “grown up,” these months have ceased to have any of those things. As a thermophobe, I actively dislike this time of year. But, readers, we will survive this thing called summer, and we will do it together. We might do it with lots of staying inside with our beloved fictional worlds, but we will make it. With that in mind, our writers have, once again, produced an amazing week’s worth of content for you to consume and enjoy. Let’s look!

Monday

Author Jus Accardo joined us on Monday for this week’s installment of My Favorite Things. It was, as usual with these posts, an intriguing mix! I’ll let the spoiler alert speak for itself: “a stress-relieving game, another game to pull you out of your funk, fantasy art that translates to the skin, and an adorable dragon.” These things are all pertinent to my interests! Check out her post and find out if you feel the same way!

Tuesday

Carey M. Ballard returned this week with the latest edition of Chain Reaction. This week’s topic? Food and feasting, in honor of the late Anthony Bourdain. Grab a snack and read Carey’s post (which features an honorable mention from one of my personal favorite films).

Wednesday

Kendra Merritt continued her extended trip through fantasy and sci-fi’s storied (see what I did there) past on Wednesday. This month’s Delayed Reaction? Titus Groan! Find out what she thought of the novel! And if you’d like to follow her on this journey, she’ll be reading Foundation by Isaac Asimov for next month!

Thursday

Nancy O’Toole Meservier started off the back half of the week with a review of season 4 of Bookburners! This is a serial from the fine folks at Serial Box. I’m a fan of serials, and I’m looking forward to diving into the newest installment of this particular production! Check out Nancy’s review! (No spoilers for this season, but her review assumes that one is caught up on the series to date.)

Friday

Nicole Taft was first on the docket with her latest Silver Screen Resolution review. This month’s second film? Brazil! I really like this series. It’s given me several film titles to add to the growing list of “why haven’t I watched that by now?” Is Brazil going on that list? I’m not sure. But read Nicole’s thoughts and see for yourself! (But here be spoilers, tread lightly if such things bother you.)

Our second post on Friday was terribly exciting. Our very own Nancy O’Toole Meservier is about to unleash her first novel upon the world! We are so thrilled for her that we couldn’t wait to share the gorgeous cover! Take a look! Isn’t it pretty? There’s also a handy pre-order link, if you’re as excited to read this novel as we are.

Book Club

You can still get in on this month’s book club discussion for The Dark Lord of Derkholm right here. And get ready for July by picking up The Power by Naomi Alderman.

And that’s all I’ve got for you this week, folks. I hope that, wherever you are, you have a great weekend. Think about spending it with friends. Fictional buddies are all well and good, but remember to take some time to visit with the people that you love in real life. Adulthood and burning hate stars be damned, adventures can still happen in summer. You just have to go looking for them!

Okay, maybe not a good example, as these particular adults were but avatars for teenagers playing a video game, but still! Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle copyright Columbia Pictures
