Hello awesome people, it’s the weekend! It’s June! It’s summer here in the US! It doesn’t matter that the “official” first day of summer is June 21; it was in the upper 90s here in the Kingdom of Undisclosed Location yesterday. That’s summer, folks. As much as I would like to remain in the blessed indoors, I have errands to run today. There’s a fun errand or two in there, but nonetheless, errands. Before I dash, have a look at what our writers got up to last week!
Monday
My Favorite Things kicked off the week, as usual! Adventurer/Author Jason Jack Miller took a few minutes to swing by and talk about the things that he loves best when he’s not gallivanting across the globe. I bet that you might like to know what those things are! A taste: “existential cowboys, a music-less future, the anti-The Walking Dead, a post-rock rabbit-hole, street art with a gaming twist, a certain corporate overlord, and the worst app ever.” That last bit intrigues you. You want to know what it is. You will read his post.

Nicole Taft is one very lucky bunny, indeed. She got to read an ARC of Sara Wolf’s newest, Bring Me Their Hearts, before a lot of people, and wrote up a review to tantalize and tease … well, me, because I got to read her review early. But! The good news is that the book has been released into the wild for anyone to enjoy now! Take a peek at Nicole’s review and join me in adding yet another book to Mount To Be Read!
Wednesday
Lane Robins picked up a distress call in her newest installment of Listen Up when she picked The Haven Chronicles for this month. The podcast has a fascinating premise: “The Haven Chronicles follows a group of soldiers as they investigate a distress signal on the corporately owned backwater planet of Haven. From spontaneous human combustion to Lovecraftian horror; they soon discover that they’re in for more than they bargained for!” What did she find on her mission to Haven? Check it out here!

Nicole Taft reappeared on Thursday to talk about the latest film that she devoured for her Silver Screen Resolution project. The first of this month’s featured presentations was Metropolis! No, not that Metropolis. This one. Ready for some black and white, silent, German Expressionist science fiction? You are. You will read Nicole’s column, and then you will watch the film yourself. (Is this Jedi mind thingy working? It’s hard to tell from this side of the computer.)

I’ll spare you the keyboard karaoke of me singing Rebecca Black’s “Friday,” but I want everyone to know that this song appears in my head every. single. week. when I do these Roundups. I suffer, so that you do not. Ahem. Anyway! On Friday, a few of us put our heads together to come up with this month’s Roundtable: By the Cover. What were we doing? Judging books by their covers. We had a few mixed results, but no matter. Take a peek at some of the books that our contributors picked up because the cover intrigued them!

Book Club Czarina Merrin is busy reading Diana Wynne Jones’ The Dark Lord of Derkholm for this month’s discussion! You will also read this novel. You will later join in our discussion of said novel. You will start reading The Power by Naomi Alderman when you have finished The Dark Lord of Derkholm. You will also go to this post and vote on our pick for August.
