Weekly Roundup: April 9-13, 2018

Hello and happy weekend! Have you had a good week? Are you working today and tomorrow? (If so, you have my sympathies.) If not, I hope that you have something fun lined up. In between adventures, take a look back at the week that was here at Speculative Chic!

Monday

Author Jeff Strand joined us to share the things he currently loves best in the world of all things geek-chic. And what are those things? “Inefficient murder weapons, a black romantic comedy, tasteless flash fiction, funny but scary music, and a video game he’s both terrified and excited to play.” EXTRA SPOILER: He loves the same song that I do from a certain soundtrack. Read on!

Tuesday

I reviewed the newest novel from Patrice Sarath: The Sisters Mederos! If the idea of a fantasy of manners featuring two sisters plotting revenge and retribution for their fallen-from-grace family sounds intriguing to you, take a look at my mostly spoiler-free review!

Wednesday

Andrea Judy, who likes mobile games almost as much as I do, reviewed something that I’m going to have to try for myself: Seedship. And what is Seedship? Read all about it here!

Our second post for Wednesday was a book review from Kendra Merritt. She tackled Amanda Hocking’s Frostfire. Did it go well for Kendra? Find out here. (Minor spoilers)

Thursday

How do you feel about Stephen King? How about film adaptations of Stephen King’s work? Venessa Giunta, who has been a fan of King’s for a while, found so many forthcoming adaptations of Mr. King’s work that she had to split her post into two parts. This month she highlights the upcoming (and hopefully upcoming) film adaptations! Go read!

On Thursday afternoon, Kendra Merritt was back with another book review. She wasn’t thrilled with Frostfire, so what did she think of Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows? Spoiler: she liked it! (The review itself is spoiler-free.)

Friday

For this month’s roundtable, we went with something simple: who’s our favorite superhero? With all of the excitement at the upcoming Avengers installment, it was an obvious choice for a group discussion. So, who did we pick?

Book Club

I hope you’re reading Redshirts! We’ll be discussing it any day now. If you’re done, May’s book is Dragonsbane by Barbara Hambly! You can still go here to vote for what we read in June.

That was our week! What was yours like? As for me, I’m just glad that it’s time to start getting ready for a new one. This weekend’s going to be spent doing boring but necessary chores. But maybe I’ll download Seedship to have something to do in between dashing about here and there. What are you up to this weekend? It’s a beautiful day here in the Magical Kingdom of Undisclosed Location, so maybe I’ll sneak outside to enjoy spring. If you’re so inclined, and if the weather is to your liking, maybe you should, too! Go outside! Have an adventure!

Just stay out of trouble. And if a group of determined-looking kids rides by on their bikes, maybe go back inside. No particular reason.

When the children take to their bikes, something evil is afoot. If modern entertainment has taught me nothing else, it has taught me that this is a fact. Screencap from IT.
