Weekly Roundup, March 4-9, 2018

Salutations! How was your week? We’ve had a delightful time, as usual. We had another first — our very first Sunday post! What was it? You’ll have to read on to find out!

Sunday

What’s this? A post on a Sunday? Why yes! We were delighted to feature an excerpt from The Big Bad Wolf by Jus Accardo, courtesy of the good folks at Entangled Teen! Here’s the link! Go check out this delightful sounding novel, available NOW for your reading enjoyment!

Monday

Our regular Monday feature, My Favorite Things, came from Tanner Meservier! When he’s not hard at work on a podcast or designing the next great game, what does he love best? “Fighting Grimms, nostalgic games, passionate podcasters, and virtual tablestops!” Read all about these things right here!

Monday afternoon came with another excerpt from Entangled Teen: Phoenix Fire by S.D. Grimm! I’m tempted by the cover alone.

Tuesday

Yours truly was back again on Tuesday morning with a review of Seanan McGuire’s latest novel, Tricks for Free! This is the latest in her InCryptid series, and I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC from the publisher (via NetGalley), which game me plenty of time to review it on release day. Here’s my spoiler-free review.

Tuesday afternoon was a rather different Sound Off! than we usually feature. This week, film editor J.L. Gribble discussed Red Sparrow. Not a speculative film, you say? True, but there’s been a lot of talk about how this film could potentially steal some thunder from the forthcoming Black Widow movie that we’re waiting impatiently for. Check out the Sound Off! here to see what J.L. thought of the movie.

Wednesday

Kelly McCarty shared her review of The Changeling by Victor LaValle. Kelly is looking to expand her horizons in the reading sector of her life this year, and this novel fit the ticket perfectly. But what did she think? Check out her review here and see for yourself.

Thursday

It’s March, and you know what that means! Convention season is here! For some of us, it’s a wondrous time of year, filled with new opportunities for making friends, learning tricks of the trade, and generally just geeking out together. Venessa Giunta, resident con guru, put together a helpful guide to some of this year’s big conventions.

Friday

This month’s Roundtable topic was brought to you by a cold, dreary winter. Spring was on my mind when I asked our contributors to think about things that were new to their entertainment repertoire. They came up with some excellent selections!

On Friday afternoon, Book Club President Merrin announced the book club selection for April: John Scalzi’s Redshirts! Click the link for more information and to vote on May’s selection!

Book Club

We’re reading Daggerspell! Are you? Are you already finished? Good, get started on Redshirts for April! And don’t forget to vote for what we pick up in May!

And that, friends, is it! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Never fear, on Monday, like the Terminator, we’ll be back.

False alarm, Sarah Connor! (Jeez, we’ve got to stop inviting these women to Spec Chic headquarters. First Effie Trinket and now this.)

Terminator 2: Judgment Day, owned by James Cameron and many, many other people who are not us.
