Weekly Roundup, February 26-March 2, 2018

Hello and welcome back to the weekend! I’m writing to you from the past, because I’ll be spending my Saturday AND Sunday working at the day job. Exciting, no? I bet that you’re having a better weekend than me! Here’s something to read in between your weekend adventures!

Monday

You know what Monday means! This week’s guest was Jaime Questell, author of By a Charm and a Curse! We love having guests appear with us for My Favorite Things. There’s a wide range of interests within our own little contributor family as it is, but giving guests a chance to share the things that delight them never fails to add to the to-experience list for me. So what is it that Jaime loves right now? “The best part of watching The Magicians, a winter soldier, sneaky games, ethereal fan art, and a ‘joyous, sparkling best version of one’s self.’” Read her full column here!

Tuesday

Our first Tuesday post was a new edition of Chain Reaction from Carey M. Ballard, exploring works of science fiction that feature music. Music shows up frequently enough in fantasy fiction, of course, but here are some of the best works of science fiction that focus on music.

Tuesday afternoon means Sound Off! This week’s film was Annihilation. Did you see this brain-bending film? Go check out what our film editor, J.L. Gribble, had to say about it!

 Wednesday

Kendra Merritt started our Wednesday off with the latest in Delayed Reactions, her quest to read more classic science fiction and fantasy. This month’s post was on H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. Read Kendra’s thoughts on the novel here!

One of my favorite writers has a new book out next week! On Wednesday afternoon, I spent some time telling you why you should check out the series that it belongs to. Here’s why you should read InCryptid!

Thursday

Nicole Taft was our first writer on Thursday morning, with the latest in this year’s Silver Screen Resolution project. The film in question? The City of Lost Children, an unusual French film.

On Thursday afternoon, Kendra Merritt returned with a review of A Thousand Nights, a re-imagining of One Thousand and One Nights.

Friday

Everyone’s making great progress with their 2018 resolutions! Sherry Peters is journeying through George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire and HBO’s Game of Thrones. This week, she tackles season two of the HBO series. Check out her reaction!

We’ve made a tradition of reading and commenting on award-nominated speculative fiction works. Announcing this year’s Philip K. Dick Award project!

Book Club

You can still chime in on our discussion of Brown Girl in the Ring! You can also start reading Katharine Kerr’s Daggerspell for our March discussion. It’ll be here before you know it!

Help Wanted!

Help still wanted! We’re looking for a few awesome people who want to work with us in an editing capacity. Interested? Click the link above and read up for more details!

And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed our trip into the past! Catch up on all that we had to offer, and as always, feel free to speak up and hop into any discussion that you find interesting. Enjoy whatever weekend adventures that you’ve got planned!

Goodbye from the past. I’ll see you in the future!

Still from Back to the Future, Universal Pictures / Amblin Entertainment
