Happy Sunday! Yes, that’s right, I’m coming at you bright and early on Sunday morning. A little change here and there is good, right? Of course it is. So, without further adieu, here’s your peek at the great week that we had last week here at Speculative Chic!
Monday
To start off the week, we hosted Bram Stoker Award-winning poet Christina Sng for My Favorite Things! What does Christina love best when she’s not hard at work on another fantastic poetry collection? “A book to take to a desert island, an assassin who’s allowed to tell her own story, keeping safe from demons, too much television, and lots of comics. Interested? Read on to learn more!”
Tuesday
Carey M. Ballard shared a review of Subterranean, the debut novel from Sarah Colombo! What did she think of this novel? I’ll give you a hint: her review title contains the phrase “All That And a Bag of Chips.” If you’re not intrigued, why not? Take a look! (Extremely mild spoilers…nothing to ruin your reading enjoyment!)
Wednesday
Kendra Merritt checked another speculative classic off of her list with her latest Delayed Reactions review! This month she tackled Michael Moorcock’s The Jewel in the Skull. Read her (spoiler-free!) thoughts!
Thursday
Nancy O’Toole Meservier delivered another great comic review on Thursday, with her thoughts on Supergirl: Being Super! Go read her review for yourself to see what she thought! (Vague spoilers.)
Friday
Friday was our only double-header this week, but what a great day it was! First up, our book club discussion for The Last Unicorn was released upon the unsuspecting world! If you’ve read this beloved classic, come chat with Merrin! We’d love to have you! Bring your friends!
On Friday afternoon, we debuted a brand new column: Out of the Box. What is it? Once per month one of our contributors will get a chance to gush about something non-speculative/nerdly that they have a great fondness for. Our debut is courtesy of Erin S. Bales, who’s a big fan of….workplace comedies! (I love them too!)
Book Club
Now that we’ve finished up our read-through of The Last Unicorn, it’s time to hop into our next selection: Laura Purcell’s The Silent Companions. I’ve got my copy…have you?
And that’s it! I hope that you enjoyed our trot down memory lane. I’m super excited for October to begin. We’ve got some really great things lined up for your reading enjoyment.
