Weekly Roundup, September 17-21, 2018

Good afternoon, lovelies! I hope that you had a good week. I was exceedingly busy at the day job all week long, and I’m relieved that the weekend has arrived. How’s your Saturday? Whatever else is happening, take a few minutes to sit back, relax, and revisit the week that was here at Speculative Chic! The show will be starting in just a few moments, so make your final purchases at the concession stand, turn phones to silent, and find your seats!

Is everybody ready? You’d better be, because it’s showtime!

Monday

Debut author Sarah Colombo joined us on Monday to discuss the things that she loves best! You know the drill by now: “Spoiler alert: the best role model, music that takes you on an emotional roller-coaster, one tough dame, a book of eerie similarities, and swoon-worthy villains. Interested? Read on to learn more!” PS: Look for a review of Sarah’s debut, Subterranean, next Tuesday!

Tuesday

J.L. Gribble has not only completed her original 2018 resolution (read A Wrinkle in Time and see the film) — she has gone for extra points and continued to read Madeleine L’Engle’s Time Quintet. Will she finish the series before the end of the year? Probably! In any case, Many Waters (book 4) was something that J.L. had read before. This week, she re-read the novel and shared her thoughts on revisiting it as an adult.

Wednesday

Erin S. Bales watched and reviewed the Netflix original, The Innøcents. I’m intrigued by this show, especially after reading Erin’s review (some mild spoilers). I just might have to give this one a shot.

On Wednesday afternoon, we were delighted to share the cover art for our very own Venessa Giunta‘s new novel, Jivaja! It’s gorgeous, and the book sounds like it’s right up my alley. Go see!

Thursday

Andrea Judy shared her review for Delilah S. Dawson and Kevin Hearne’s collaborative work, Kill the Farm Boy. Like fantasy tropes? Like puns? Fan of bawdy humor? This book might be for you!

Friday

Nicole Taft finished out the week with her latest film review for her Silver Screen Resolution. This installment covers a film is one that I really love, Only Lovers Left Alive. It’s Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton being vampires…if that doesn’t interest you, then I’m not sure what to tell you. What did Nicole think? Read her review! (No spoilers.)

Book Club

Our discussion of The Last Unicorn will be happening soon! I hope you’re ready! I hope that you’re also going to invite some friends along! If you’re all ready on that front, consider checking out Laura Purcell’s The Silent Companions for our October discussion. All done there? You’re ahead of the game! Make sure that you’ve voted for our November selection right here.

And that, friends, is that! I hope that you enjoy the rest of your weekend! I plan to! I had a few too many adventures during the last week, and I plan to relax. I’m reading The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón at the moment, but I haven’t had enough time to really dig in to the story the way that I want to. Tomorrow, I may or may not climb a mountain for fun. There are some excellent hiking opportunities nearby, and I can’t enjoy them when the weather’s too hot. Tomorrow, though, promises to be a delightfully cool day. If it rains, I’m going to re-visit The Good Place in anticipation of the coming season premiere (September 27!). How about you? What are your weekend plans? Reading something fun? Watching something addictive? Tell me about it!

I don’t really have anything particularly witty to say about this week’s featured image. I think it speaks for itself. If you haven’t seen The Good Place, GOOGLE NOTHING ABOUT IT. Just watch the first two seasons on Netflix so that you can hop on board the train with Team Cockroach for season three.
