Weekly Roundup, September 3-7, 2018

Hello friends! It’s that time again, where I pretend to be witty, and you humor me! We also take a look at the posts that have been published here at Speculative Chic since our last meeting. How exciting! This week has been, as usual, full of delightful articles that I hope you consume with utmost enjoyment. Let’s go!

Monday

My Favorite Things, our normal Monday offering, featured author Meg Kassel. What are Meg’s favorite things at the moment? Hint: “a video game that even terrible gamers might enjoy, a favorite retelling of a tale as old as time, an award-winning graphic novel with gorgeous artwork, and a television show whose reboot is as good as the original.” Intriguing! Go read!

Tuesday

A double-header! Our first post of the day was my review of Seanan McGuire’s latest October Daye novel, Night and Silence! If you’re not caught up on this series, but you want to give it a whirl, take a look at the post I wrote last year on why the series was worthy of winning a Hugo award. If you’re caught up, take a peek at my review (spoiler free!) and come chat with me.

Our Tuesday afternoon post came from Kendra Merritt, who reviewed the just-released Seventhborn! What did Kendra think of this brand new novel from Monica Sanz? See for yourself!

Wednesday

Another double-post day! To start things off, Lane Robins continued her Resolution Project: discover the wonders of the podcast world! This month’s topic: Archive 81. Read her review and see what she thought of this horror podcast!

Wednesday afternoon, Nicole Taft shared her review of Meg Kassel’s Keeper of the Bees. What did she think about it? Well, if you follow us on Instagram (and you should, we’re @speculativechic), you already know the answer (spoiler: she bought the hardcover). Read her review, and decide if you’re going to bring home this beautiful book yourself! (I want it.)

Thursday

The first post of the day was another resolution post: Nicole Taft continued her Silver Screen resolution with a viewing of The Hunger. There will be spoilers!

On Thursday afternoon, we threw a party because our very own J.L. Gribble has a new book out! Join the celebration right here, and if you’re new to her series, we have provided some handy links for your perusal after the interview! Not that I’m hinting or anything. I’m outright telling you: give this series a look.

Friday

It was an unofficial Let’s Do Resolution Projects Week, because Sherry Peters continued her journey through Westeros and beyond on Friday with the latest in her Year of Thrones project! This month? She’s sharing her thoughts on season 5 of Game of Thrones. Please, if you’re caught up on the show, don’t spoil Sherry’s fun!

Book Club

Guess who got sick and didn’t approve the book club announcement post for yesterday afternoon? Yes, that’s me. My sincere apologies to everyone. So you’ll have to wait for Monday to find out what our spooky October book club pick is going to be. In the meantime, you can still go chat with Merrin and the rest of us about Among Others, and make sure that you’re reading The Last Unicorn for our discussion later this month!

And that’s that. Now, I’m dragging my sad, pathetic self back to bed to cower under the blankets and sleep the bronchitis away. In between naps, I’ve been reading Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses, and I’m pretty well hooked. As in, I’ve already got the rest of the series waiting for me. What are you up to this weekend? Drop us a line on any of our recent posts! Remember, we love to chat. Have a lovely weekend, cats and kittens, and I’ll be back next week!
