Weekly Roundup, August 27-31, 2018

HELLO SEPTEMBER! It’s a brand new month, filled with all kinds of opportunities and possibilities! This could be your best month yet! Before we can fully embrace the new, we must say our final farewells to August. We closed out the month with some great work from our contributors (as always), and I am here to guide you. Are you ready? Then let’s go!

Monday

Our guest for My Favorite Things on Monday was author Monica Sanz! Monica’s got a new book coming out in a few days, so there’s a lot going on in her world right now. Nevertheless, she generously sat down with us to sing the praises of the things that she loves best right now. And what are those things, you may be asking? (Of course you’re asking!) “Beautiful fight scenes, music to put on repeat, and soundtracks that transcend their films.” Intriguing! Check it out!

Tuesday

Carey M. Ballard debuted this month’s Chain Reaction on Tuesday morning. The topic was a heavy one: stories about state-sanctioned internment. It’s a timely piece, and there are some excellent stories on display here. You should read her post, if you haven’t already.

Wednesday

Merrin, who primarily writes book-related content here at Spec Chic, decided to watch a film a little while ago. Innocently, she turned it on. Shortly after she finished watching it, she simply had to talk about it. Or yell about it. Read her review of How it Ends, then thank Merrin. She watched it so that you don’t have to.

Thursday

J.L. Gribble, after beginning the year by reading A Wrinkle in Time, decided to continue with the series and has arrived at A Swiftly Tilting Planet! If you’ve read these books, please feel free to chime in on the comments to discuss the novels with J.L.!

Friday

I finally shared my first review for my own resolution project  (to read more space opera this year) on Friday! This book wasn’t on my original list, but I couldn’t resist it. Have you read Catherynne M. Valente’s latest novel? If you haven’t, I highly encourage you to pick up Space Opera. In the meantime you can read my spoiler-free review!

Book Club

We are still discussing Among Others, if you are inclined to join us! And don’t forget to read The Last Unicorn for this month!

And that, as they say, is that. It’s a long weekend for some of us here in the USA. Not for me. I get to spend Sunday evening at the day job. Nevertheless, I am determined to enjoy as much of my time as possible. What are your plans, if you’re not working? Maybe you are heading for the beach, as so many Americans seem to be planning? If so, beware of cheeky waves handing out unwanted makeovers. Whatever you’re doing, have a great time, be safe, and I’ll see you back here next week!
