Welcome to August (she said, several days late)! And, more importantly, welcome to the weekend! Have you had a nice week? I hope so. I, on the other hand, well…have you ever had one of those weeks that drains every single ounce of energy from you? That was me. That was the entire last month for me. Last night, I collapsed and slept for approximately thirteen hours. Don’t be like me; take care of yourself! If you’re off this weekend, make sure to carve out some time for just that. A great way to recharge would be to spend a few minutes with yours truly, reviewing the fantastic week that just finished up here at Speculative Chic. Whether you’re just waking up, or you’re taking an afternoon break, I’m here for you! Let’s go!
Monday
Author Aden Polydoros joined us on Monday to chat about the things he currently loves best. What are his Favorite Things? Hint: “video games for the working writer, a genre that deserves to be subverted, exploring morality and humanity through anime, and a poetic book that isn’t only about a haunted house.” Intriguing, no? Read about his favorites right here!
Tuesday
I reviewed a delightful YA novel for our first post on Tuesday! Check out my thoughts on Nadine Brandes’ Fawkes here! No spoilers.
On Tuesday afternoon, our Sound Off! for the Netflix original film, Extinction was released into the wild. What did we think? See for yourself! No spoilers here, either!
Wednesday
Lane Robins happily continued her podcast adventure on Wendesday with her thoughts on The Bridge. Her review is almost enough to make me try to fit podcasts into my life! Go read!
Thursday
There are very few films that genuinely disturbed me when I first watched them. Nicole Taft reviewed one of those films for her Silver Screen Resolution on Thursday: Event Horizon. Have you watched this? Hop in the comments of Nicole’s post and have a chat!
Friday
Our day began with Sherry Peters, who continued her Year of Thrones with a review on George R.R. Martin’s massive fourth novel, A Feast for Crows. What did she think? You’ll have to go read! Beware of spoilers!
Our final post of the week was an announcement from our book club president, Merrin: we shall be reading Peter S. Beagle’s classic, The Last Unicorn, in September! I’m excited! I haven’t read this book in ages, so it will be a treat to revisit it! You can also visit the announcement page here to vote on which spooky delight we will be reading together in October.
Book Club
Remember, we’re reading Among Others by Jo Walton this month. I might even get to participate in this one, and if I can do it, ANYONE CAN! Share the love, spread the word, etc. We would love to have as many people as possible join us in our discussion.
And that, my friends, is that. I hope that you have an enjoyable weekend. Whether you’re working or not, remember three key things: eat something (nobody likes it when you’re hungry), drink some water (because hydration is important), and breathe. Take good care of yourself. Don’t be like me and neglect the important things until you lose an entire half day to dreamland. In any case, I’m off for now! I’m hoping to have some kind of adventure this weekend; said adventure may or may not involve visiting a waterfall and going for a swim. Of course, it may or may not include watching The Last Unicorn in the nice, climate-controlled indoors (what? If I’m going to re-read the novel, I might as well re-watch the film). Who knows for sure. Whatever your weekend holds, try to have some fun! I’ll return next week, and we’ll take another fantastic journey. Cheers!
