Weekly Roundup, February 18-22, 2019

Greetings! Welcome to Saturday! I appreciate you all sticking by me each week, as I do my best to keep things cheerful and vaguely entertaining. I love you all. Ready for this week’s fun little recap? Monday

Howard Kleinman joined us on Monday to discuss the things that he currently loves best. “What does Howard love when he’s not writing or gaming his thumbs off? Spoiler alert: a survival horror REmake, a manga that’s coming back into the light, and an unexpected Spider-Man. Intrigued? Read on to learn more!”

On Monday afternoon, editor Shara White shared some exciting news! Remember how I hinted that you might want to keep an eye on this space if you were interested in joining us for our March book club? Well, here’s why! Author Kij Johnson reached out with some fantastic news: she has copies of her otherwise hard-to-find novel, The Fox Woman, that her mother would very much like out of the basement. Order your copy right here!

Tuesday

To begin our Tuesday, Calie Voorhis shared her most recent research on the speculative map: that time that the badass middle-aged ladies of science fiction and fantasy arrived to stake out their territory. Read on for this marvelous post!

On Tuesday afternoon, we shared our Sound Off! for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part!

Wednesday

Our first post on Wednesday came from Erin S. Bales, with the first post in her resolution project for 2019: Blowing Off Steam! Her first selection? What Remains of Edith Finch! Go read!

For Wednesday afternoon, we shared our Sound Off! for Alita: Battle Angel!

Thursday

Going through winter right now? Tired of the cold? It could be worse. Nu Yang shared some frosty films to put life into perspective. Yeah, it’s chilly out, but at least you’re not trapped in an off-season resort with your murderous husband. Confused? A Cold Day in Hell has the answers!

Friday

And finally, to finish out the week, I shared my review for the forthcoming installment in Seanan McGuire’s InCryptid series, That Ain’t Witchcraft! The only real spoiler: I liked it, and I’m already looking forward to the next book. You’ll have to wait another week and change, but I promise it’s worth it.

Book Club

You may have noticed that this was the final Friday of the month, and we didn’t have our normal discussion. Our discussion of How Long ‘Til Black Future Month? has been pushed slightly back to next week. So! You still have time to read it this weekend so that you can join us next week! And, don’t forget to snag your copy of The Fox Woman for March!

And that, my cherubs, is that. As you read this, know that I am thinking of you and all of the joyfulness that I hope you experience this weekend as I work busily at the day job. Have an extra bit of fun for your auntie Casey, all right?

Just don’t get into trouble.

I SAID DON’T GET INTO TROUBLE!

OMG. I keep forgetting NEXT Friday is March first! I’m still reading the Jemisin. 🙂

Thanks for your review on the McGuire. I’m mad: I’ll be out of town when my mass market paperback arrives!
