It’s December still but welcome to 2019 as well? I guess???? I’m here again with your next chosen book, and I am so very pleased about this choice, friends!
Mystic and Rider (2006)

The premise:
Gillengaria seethes with unrest. In the south, hostility toward magic and its users has risen to a dangerous level, though King Baryn has ordered that such mystics are to be tolerated. It is whispered that he issued the decree because his new wife used her magic powers to ensnare him…
The King knows there are those in the noble Twelve Houses who could use this growing dissent to overthrow him. So he dispatches the mystic Senneth to assess the threat throughout the realm. Accompanying her is a motley band of magic-users and warriors including Tayse, first among the King’s Riders—who holds a hard view of mystics in general, and Senneth in particular.
But as the unlikely allies venture farther into the south, they will face death in a land under the sway of a fanatical cult that would purge Gillengaria of all magic users. And they will come to realize that their only hope of survival lies in standing together…
I really enjoyed celebrating Black History Month by reading only Black authors that month, so I’ve decided to keep that up in 2019! With that in mind, choose from these three options:

I LOVE this series. I own half of it in paperback, the other half in hardback, and I just splurged to buy it in Kindle. Plus, Sharon Shinn is one of the loveliest authors I’ve ever had the chance to meet. YAY!
OMG meeting her is my dream. I’ve written her fan mail though and got a lovely response!
Me too. I have it in hard cover, audio, and bathtub-friendly paperback. No ebook yet, but it’s just a matter of time. These books are re-read at least once a year. Have you read any of the Elemental Blessings books?
There isn’t a book she’s written that I haven’t read. I found a metalworker that was selling sets of the blessings and I bought one for myself last Christmas or the Christmas before, can’t remember which. I think Corene’s book was my fave so far.
Ooh, metal blessings! Leah is my favorite protagonist of the four Elemental books but I long for a book about a grown-up hunti Natalie. I love all of the Gillengaria books except for Kirra’s, which I find hard to read.
It’s the only book I’ve read by Sharon Shinn that I don’t particularly care for, and it makes me sad. I just don’t understand what she was thinking, departing so completely from what she normally does with that one.
