Happy Saturday, friends! And happy almost-Halloween! It truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Pumpkin everything, spooky stories, decorations, candy…I adore it! Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to observe the holiday season as thoroughly as I usually do. I’ve watched some movies, and I’ve had my fair share of seasonal treats, but I want more. I can’t believe that the big day is coming up so quickly. Got any big plans? I’m keeping it simple this year — handing out candy for the neighborhood kids and then wrapping up the Nightmare on Elm Street collection with the spouse. Today, though, I’m delighted to once again take you on a magical tour of the week that we just wrapped up at Speculative Chic! Ready? Onward!
Monday
We kicked off the week with special guest Seressia Glass, sharing her favorite things! Hint? Not this week! You’re just going to have to take a peek for yourself. Check it out!
Tuesday
Carey M. Ballard shared this month’s Chain Reaction on Tuesday morning: some different tales that celebrate Halloween! Think outside the box this year and try one of her suggestions this year!
Tuesday afternoon, Nicole Taft shared her thoughts on Venom! It…sounds fun! (No spoilers!)
Wednesday
Kendra Merritt tackled Philip K. Dick (not literally, that would be awkward) with her latest Delayed Reaction review! This month’s book? Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? What did she think of the novel that inspired Blade Runner? Go read! (There are some minor spoilers here.)
Ronya F. McCool graced us with her thoughts on the new Halloween on Wednesday afternoon. Have you seen it? I haven’t had a chance yet, but I really, really want to. In the meantime, read her spoiler-free reaction!
Thursday
Nancy O’Toole Meservier reviewed Hank Green’s debut novel, An Absolutely Remarkable Thing for us on Thursday! Fun fact: I didn’t even know that Green had written a novel until Nancy decided to review it! And now I need to read it. Read her review and maybe you’ll need to read it too! (Beware spoilers)
Friday
We had a double dose of Merrin! First off, she kicked off our discussion of Laura Purcell’s The Silent Companions for this month’s book club (spoilers, of course).
Then, she was our featured contributor for Out of the Box! How did Merrin come to fall in love with ice hockey? Find out here!
Our Daily Lovecraft
Nicole’s still meandering her way through the complete works of H.P. Lovecraft. You’re missing out if you haven’t been following along. Here‘s the entire series. Read it!
Book Club
As mentioned above, we’re just starting our discussion of The Silent Companions. If you’ve read this one, we’d love you to join the conversation! If you’ve been there and done that, start reading Cinder by Marissa Meyer for November. We’ll be announcing December’s pick any day now. I hope you’re ready!
And that was our week! I’m spending my weekend at the day job. Fun! What are you up to? I hope that you have a great time, no matter what kind of fun you find for yourself. Halloween is coming…maybe you’re visiting a spooky haunt? Perhaps a perplexing corn maze? Or maybe you’re staying in? That’s great too! Catch up on some reading, or watch something appropriately creepy! Or less than creepy, because that’s fine too! There’s no wrong way to ramp up for Halloween. Just ask these guys.
